Our aim is to bring the best out of every pupil that attends Marshland St James Primary & Nursery School.
In our school we want our children to be caring and confident learners. We aim to provide a loving, safe and secure environment where every child has the belief to achieve and the sense of belonging to a Christian, school family. We will nurture and encourage children's ambitions to enable them to believe in themselves: to become courageous learners, and to be compassionate, tolerant and respectful members of our school community.
Our school logo is the shell of St James and a lapwing.
The scallop shell is a symbol of St James who made pilgrimages across Europe spreading the word of God. Pilgrims used the scallop shells to make oil lamps to light their way or to provide a vessel from which they could drink from.
The lapwing is a bird that is found on farmland and low areas of northern Europe. They used to be a common sight on the marshy fen areas of East Anglia.
At Marshland St James we have an agreed set of core Christian values spread over a two year cycle. These values underpin much of what we do. Each half term a new word is explored through assemblies, stories, displays and newsletters, and in the classroom. The children are immersed in that value and it becomes part of their working vocabulary. This also links closely to other work done in PSHE.
